Home security

Home security can involve elaborate surveillance equipment as well as simple yet smart purchases. A big part of keeping the home safe is just staying aware of suspicious activity, exercising caution, and being prepared at all times.

Tips for Home Security:

•Do not hide a key near your doorway. Most burglars know that keys may commonly be found above doorframes, under rugs, within fake stones, or inside of potted plants. If you are afraid of being locked out, consider installing a keypad locking mechanism.

•Avoid having a predictable schedule. In many situations it is easy for a person to monitor when you generally are and are not home.

•A basic and important aspect of home security is making your home be less easy of a target. An example of such a deterrent would be to keep the lawn clear of debris so that you and your neighbors can easily view anyone on your property. Likewise, a camera system does not even have to work in order to discourage any criminal activity.

•Sliding glass doors are generally not very securely fastened. Block the track with a wooden dowel or stick for added reinforcement.

•If a stranger comes to your door and asks to use your telephone, offer to make the call for them.
•Avoid identity theft by not throwing away any personal identification information that hasn’t been shredded.
