Office security
Office security encompasses many of the same equipment
as one would use at home. However, there are some additional tactics
and concerns related specifically to the office which are worth addressing.
Here are some examples:
•Only provide keys for those who need them. Also, keep track of
keys with a numbering and checkout system.
•Remember that front office workers, such as receptionists, are
the ones who most commonly deal with clients, general public, and other
employees. Extra consideration should be taken to ensure that they are
prepared to deal with volatile situations and can summon security or
the police in a discreet manner.
•Keep office security systems up to date with emergency numbers.
•Have the same, trustworthy person or people remain in charge
of opening or closing the office each work day. This works both to ensure
that all the correct morning and evening tasks are handled as well as
to keep track of who is around the office and at what time.
•Part of office security may require protection between coworkers.
Instruct employees on how to keep their belongings safe in the work
environment and how to deal with uncomfortable social situations.
•Do not allow visitors to wander freely around the work place.
•If a stranger is lingering around the office, ask if you may
provide assistance. This can both help out a lost individual as well
as discourage crime from taking place.
