Security surveillance
Security surveillance systems greatly reduce the likelihood
of a break in ever occurring. Even if a burglary occurs, a functional
system can provide the added benefit of catching it on film. This can
be used as evidence, or simply as an educational record of security
weaknesses.
The way that security surveillance is set up in a home or business
may be described as overt or covert. Overt systems are easily recognized,
while covert systems are hidden. Each has its own particular benefits.
Because an overt security surveillance system is easily spotted, it
can be used primarily to discourage people from engaging in any criminal
behavior. Such a set-up may not even need to be functional to serve
most its purpose. A hidden system, on the other hand, may be best used
if it is necessary for people to remain unaware that they are being
watched. Such cameras may be used to monitor employees or housekeepers
who may not be entirely trustworthy.
